Can Gio Applied Research and Testing station

Chief of the station: Nguyen Tuan Anh

Introduction

Can Gio applied research and testing station belongs to the Southern Branch of the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center and was established in 2009 in Hao Vo commune, Can Gio district, HCMC with a total area of 12 ha, and located 4,4 km from the sea. The station has the functions of carrying out scientific research, testing, pilot manufacturing, and coordinating with inside and outside VRTC in implementing research, testing, pilot manufacturing, and transferring technology contracts.

Main research directions

Leading and coordinating with units inside and outside VRTC to conduct research in the following areas:

- Researching and assessing the durability of weapons, materials, and technical equipment under the impacts of tropical climate;

- Developing methods, standards, and tools for natural testing in order to assess the durability of materials and technical equipment;

- Studying the physiological characteristics of mangrove plants and the processes of greenhouse gas exchange of mangrove ecosystems with the atmosphere;

- Studying the hydrobiological systems and aquaculture in mangrove forests.

Facilities and equipment

-  The Cambell weather station automatically measures, records, and transmits 14 climate and environmental parameters to the station's management department and directly to the South Office.

- Natural testing areas: grass grounds, concrete floors, storehouses without walls, storehouses with louver windows and doors, and a rack system (the fixed and can-rotate ones).

- A laboratory for sample processing before and after testing.

- Equipment for monitoring and evaluating the state of the surface and some properties of materials.

- Area for microbiological testing.

- Station for monitoring the flow of heat, moisture, and carbon dioxide in Can Gio mangrove forests.

- Area for high-tech shrimp farming according to VIETGAP standards.

Main results

- Coordinating, supporting, and ensuring for units inside and outside the Center to conduct natural tests and evaluate the tropical durability of thousands of materials under different testing programs; studying the role of ecosystems in the context of climate change; getting statistics on biosphere data in the Can Gio mangrove area, etc.

- Leading a number of applied research tasks at the station and neighboring areas such as super-intensive shrimp farming according to Vietnam - Australia high technology, meeting VIETGAP standards; raising cobia in artificial reservoirs with high results.

Form of cooperation

-  Coordinating with other units in performing natural testing tasks.

-   Implementing testing services.
