The Coastal Branch of Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center is a unit directly under the Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center, performing the main task of scientific research in two directions: Tropical Durability and Tropical Ecology, apply technology transfer and scientific services, and study engineering in service of national defense and people's livelihood. The Coastal Branch currently has 2 Laboratories (Laboratory of Tropical Durability and Laboratory of Tropical Ecology), 01 Marine Research and Testing Station and 05 functional departaments. The Coastal Branch of Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center currently has 4 sublaboratories, including 2 sublaboratories at the headquarters of 30 Nguyen Thien Thuat and 2 sublaboratories at the Marine Research and Testing Station. The laboratories are invested with many modern equipment to serve Vietnamese and Russian cadres to carry out research on two directions of tropical durability; tropical ecology and other research directions.

RESEARCH UNITS

 Tropical Durability Department

 Department Of Tropical Ecology

Dam Bay Marine Climatic Testing Station

FUNCTIONS

- Do scientific research in two main directions Tropical Durability (Tropical Materials), Tropical Ecology and other tropical issues

- Apply technology transfer and scientific and technical services;

- Coordinate scientific and technological activities between organizations and research institutes of Vietnam and Russia.

MISSON

The branch's political task is to coordinate with the Russian side to implement the Joint Scientific Research Plan approved by the Vietnam - Russia Coordination Committee on IWT in the two directions of tropical durability and tropical ecology. Simultaneously, the Vietnamese side of the Branch also performs the S&T tasks of the Vietnamese side according to the S&T programs, projects and plans of the State, the Ministry of National Defense, ministries, branches and localities.

As the representative of the Center in the Central and Central Highlands regions, the branch coordinates to ensure the activities of the Center and performing military foreign affairs in the area.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND REWARDS

The direction of Tropical Durability has implemented testing programs, assessing the durability of non-metallic materials, testing decorative coating systems, anti-corrosion protection materials, testing the tropical durability of materials, electronic components, etc. with thousands of samples of all kinds. Through the study, the impact of tropical climate factors on the technical state of equipment, materials and components was assessed and solutions were proposed for manufacturing new materials and applying new methods and means in exploitation, use and preservation to ensure the durability of weapons, technical equipment in the humid tropical environment;

The branch has also coordinated with Russian scientific staff to conduct research directly serving the military and national defense such as: Studying the influence of tropical climate factors on the technical state of weapons, technical equipment of the Air Defense - Air Force, Navy, etc.

The Tropical Ecology direction has delved deeply into the study of saltwater ecosystems, focusing on the structure and function of coastal marine ecosystems: studying symbiotic communities on corals; mangrove ecosystems; soft bottom organisms; research on embryonic development of fish of high economic value used in aquaculture, gonadal development and lung development stages of coral reef fish, parasitic infection on eggs and fish in the freshwater ecosystem: focus on studying fish communities, plankton, benthic organisms, etc. in rivers, reservoirs and different water bodies.

The specific tasks of the Vietnamese side in the direction of tropical durability have high applicability, there are topics that have been put into practical application and brought in practical effects. Ecological studies focus on conservation, restoration and sustainable use of ecosystems, addressing pressing and practical problems.
