The Department of Biotechnology (since December 2009), formerly known as Laboratory of Biotechnology (established on July 18, 1992), is a research unit under the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center established under the Decision No. 250/QD-TM dated February 18, 2009 of the Chief of General Staff. The functions and tasks of the Department of Biotechnology are regulated by the General Director of the Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center.
LABORATORIES
FUNCTIONS
- Do scientific and technological research in the fields of biotechnology, environment, biochemistry, chemistry - pharmacy, biological materials for socio-economic development and military - defense;
- Apply and transfer scientific and technological research results into practice;
- Implement research collaboration with the Russian Federation and other countries in the relevant field of research.
MISSION
- Do basic and applied research in the fields of biotechnology, microbiology, environment, biochemistry, chemistry - pharmacy, biological materials, etc.
- Deploy, apply and transfer scientific and technological research results, organizing trial production, consulting and services on biotechnology and related fields into practice.
- Participate in the implementation of science and technology projects with Russian experts in the Vietnam - Russia Joint Science and Technology Program.
- Consult and provide S&T services in the assigned research field in accordance with the law.
- Coordinate scientific and technological activities in related fields with domestic and foreign organizations and research institutes.
- Set up and develop the scientific and technological potential of the Department, participating in the training of scientific and technical staff.
- Perform other tasks of the Vietnamese side assigned by the State, the Ministry of National Defense and the Head of the Center.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND REWARDS
- In the 2016-2021 period, the Department of Biotechnology has presided over the implementation of 32 projects and tasks at all levels, including 2 national-level projects, 1 National Defense-level project, 2 General Department-level projects, and 5 General Department-level projects, 5 UBPH thesis, 14 topics and tasks at the Center level and 8 tasks at the branch level. Most of the topics focus on practical application research for military-defense, such as research on waste treatment technology of soldiers in the island area of Spratly Islands in sea water and water-scarce areas in the highlands where border guards are stationed in Ha Giang and Quang Ninh provinces; products for the army to respond to emergency situations such as water treatment tablets in field trips, quick hemostatic products and anti-mold preservation methods for military binoculars, for military equipment, etc. Won the second prize of creative youth at the army level in 2020.
- The Department received Certificate of Merit from the General Department of Politics in 2018; Emulation flag of the Center in 2018; and Determining-to-win Unit in 2019 and 2020.
