Institute of Tropical Durability is a science and technology research facility under the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center/Ministry of National Defense. The predecessor of the Institute was the Sub-Institute of Tropical Durability, established on July 18, 1988 under Decision No. 288/QD-TM of the Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army. On January 11, 2007, the Minister of National Defense signed Decision No. 02/2007/QD-BQP on the establishment of the Institute of Tropical Durability. Institute of Tropical Durability with a long history of development has built a team of high quality, large and experienced researchers. The equipment of the laboratories of the Institute is synchronously and modernly invested to fully meet the research requirements.

MISSION
- Conducting scientific and technological research in the field of tropical durability for national defense and economy: researching on the effects of tropical climate on weapons, technical equipment, proposing exploitation and preservation technology; Researching, synthesizing and manufacturing materials adapted to tropical environmental conditions to meet the needs of national defense and daily life tasks; Conducting natural testing, evaluation acceleration testing, predicting material life in tropical climates. Developing and applying materials assessment standards.

- Building and developing the scientific and technological potential of the Institute, participating in training scientific and technical staff;
- Coordinating scientific and technological activities in the field of tropical durability with units in the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center and with domestic and foreign research organizations and institutes to deploy tasks;
RESULTS
– The Institute's scientific research has carried out more than 40 projects at national, ministerial and sectoral levels, achieving many outstanding results, serving national defense and meeting the needs of units in the whole army..
– Conducting over 100 test programs with over 10,000 samples, with the aim of assessing the durability of materials, the degree of tropicalization as well as determining the lifetime of materials in tropical climates.
– The center has been recognized for its synthetic testing capacity (natural and accelerated) according to TCVN/QS 877:2010 for oil, grease, coating and rubber materials and according to ISO/IEC 17025: 2017.
– Researching and evaluating the technical status of weapons and equipment under the impact of tropical climate, statistics of failures, recommendations to manufacturers and operators to use measures to increase the life and reliability of technical equipment.
– Producing sealing materials, preservative grease used in the technical assurance of military weapons and equipment: gun oil, engine preservative oil, preservative grease, marine grease, cable grease, AO-1 rubber anti-aging agent, BT-97 bitumen paint, MT-97 sealing mastic, …
– Manufacture of military-specific materials: Steol-M hydraulic fluid, POZ-70 push-pull brake fluid, litmus paper used to evaluate the quality of propellant by Viay method, ignitant 2,4-DNR, military combustible triethyl aluminum, extinguishing agent ethyl bromide, technical rubber…
– Researching and preparing some pharmaceutical chemical products.
- Researching and applying electrochemical technology to protect ships, boats, marine and island structures by external current as well as sacrificial anode. Researching and applying cavitation techniques to manufacture underwater barnacle remover.
– Researching on adapting methods, standards and technology to assess the quality of propellants by manometer method, receiving and applying Vulcan, Lava equipments and russian standard to Vietnam.
– Coordinating in compiling new standards and adjusting technology of Dung Quat Refinery to produce JET-A1K jet fuel, L-62 diesel fuel.
- Many products of the Institute of Tropical durability have been widely used in the military.
With these outstanding and typical achievements, the Institute of Tropical Durability has been awarded many certificates of merit and commendation from the government and the Ministry of National Defense.
