Laboratory of Biochemistry

Head of Laboratory: Dr. Vu Duy Nhan

The Laboratory of Biochemistry under the Department of Biotechnology performs scientific and technological tasks in the field of biochemistry, conducts research, deploys, and develops products and technologies for national defense and people's lives, and participates in training and international cooperation in the above fields.

MAIN RESEARCH DIRECTIONS

- Do research, manufacture and transfer products in the fields of chemical technology, chemistry - pharmacy, biotechnology applied in emergencies in the army and people's lives.

- Implement extraction, biosynthesis and semi-synthesis of biologically active substances from animals, plants and microorganisms applied in medicine, pharmaceuticals and functional foods.

- Study the destructive characteristics of microorganisms for materials, components and technical equipment in tropical climate conditions and propose protective measures; natural testing and accelerated microbiological durability of materials, components, etc. in tropical climates; testing the antifungal and antibacterial activity of materials applied in preservation to prevent biological destruction.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

The laboratory is fully equipped with necessary equipment, such as

- Chromatographic equipment system: HPLC, GC-MS, high performance liquid chromatography system with modulator.

- UV-VIS spectrophotometer, melting point meter, CO concentration measurement, vacuum distillation system, Keldan analyzer, Elisa device.

- Other equipment for microbiology and biochemistry research, etc.

Analysis on GCMS                                                              Analysis on HPLC

ACHIEVEMENTS AND REWARDS

- Preside and participate in many topics and tasks at all levels: 02 state levels; 05 levels of UBPH; 8 grassroots level topics; 8 grassroots-level tasks from 2010 to present;

- Publish over 20 articles, including 02 international publications on the list of ISI and VAK; 01 accepted intellectual property applications.

- Some products of the Laboratory are gradually being applied in practice (water treatment tablets; isoquercetin functional food capsules).

Outstanding scientific and technological activities and products:

- State-level project under the national key science and technology research program to develop the pharmaceutical chemical industry until 2020: "Study on the process of synthesizing axizol as a drug against carbon monoxide poisoning". Master the technology of axizol production and axizol preparation technology in hard capsule form. The products have been tested for quality and have many potential applications in preventing carbon monoxide poisoning, preventing smoke inhalation, and enhancing tolerance in oxygen-deficient conditions. The product is not only necessary to equip officers and soldiers in combat, but also can be applied to increase human survivability in fire situations that have shown signs of increasing rapidly in recent times.

- State-level project under the Project on development and application of biotechnology in the processing industry to 2020: "Research on converting rutin into isoquercetin by microorganisms and its application as raw materials for production functional foods". Develop a technological process to convert rutin into isoquercetin with purity 98% by microorganisms and successfully manufactured Isoquercetin capsules with antioxidant support and anti-aging effects.

+ Project: "Research to manufacture pellets for water treatment in emergency situations". The project has manufactured water treatment pellets that have not met the requirements of daily life into hygienic water according to some important criteria of QCVN 01:2009/BYT. The water treatment tablets of the project are superior in terms of turbidity, taste, heavy metal removal and pesticides compared to products circulating on the market. The product can be equipped for officers and soldiers in field trips to reduce the logistical burden and can also be used to treat flood water during storms and floods to ensure safe water sources and avoid outbreaks of gastrointestinal and dermatological diseases.

FORM OF COOPERATION

- Contract for testing resistance of microorganisms (natural and accelerated tests) to materials (polymers, fabrics, etc.) under compatible standards.

- Contract for supplying scientific and technological products and services.

- Implement cooperation in research and training in the fields of biology, biochemistry, environment, etc.
