Laboratory of Military Environmental Ecology

Head of Laboratory: Dr. Dinh Ba Duy

The predecessor of the Laboratory of Military Environmental Ecology is the Military Ecology Center (established in 1999), now is under the Institute of Tropical Ecology. Over 20 years of operation and development, the Laboratory has made contributions in ecological - environmental research. The Laboratory has also actively participated in environmental protection in military, national defense and economic activities. Currently, laboratory is eligible to operate environmental monitoring services under Decree 127/2014/ND-CP of the Government with code VIMCERT 278.

MAIN RESEARCH DIRECTIONS

 - Researching on theoretical and practical issues of military ecology in tropical monsoon conditions in Vietnam.

 - Researching on the effects of conditions, natural processes, climate change, human activities on military constructions and activities; developing solutions to ensure ecological and environmental security in military activities;;

 - Environmental monitoring activities; environmental impact assessment of military and civilian projects.

- Applying geospatial technology and unmanned aerial vehicles in resource management and monitoring and environmental protection.

- Researching, evaluating the amount of CO2 and water vapor absorption of tropical forest ecosystems in Vietnam under climate change conditions.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

The Laboratory of Military Environmental Ecology has 01 Laboratory with many research equipments such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV); high performance liquid chromatography system; combination of elemental analysis equipment; visible spectrophotometer; system of field meters for water quality indicators; soil heavy metal meter; system of measuring equipment for emissions, dust, toxic gas, radiation, low and high frequency electromagnetic fields and equipment system for interpretation, remote sensing analysis and GIS.

RESULTS

- Researching and evaluating the effects of climate change on military constructions and activities in the area of Military Zones 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 9; Assessing the impact and proposing solutions to respond to and minimize the impact of climate change on the provincial defense areas in the Central Highlands and the Mekong River Delta.

- Assessing the current status, identifying solutions to manage and protect the soil environment of military units in the North (2017-2018), Central and Southern regions (2019-2020).

- Investigating, surveying and advising on making environmental impact assessment reports, projects and plans on environmental protection of units inside and outside the military.

- Researching the landscape of the sea - islands of Truong Sa to serve national defense and military tasks and managing and using resources sustainably on the basis of application of remote sensing and GIS technology.

- Application of remote sensing, GIS and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) methods in studying the structural features of the landscape of the National Parks and Conservation Areas.

- Researching on the functional role of tropical forest ecosystems in absorbing CO2 and mitigating climate change.

Reward: Second prize for the 17th Military creative youth in 2016, the project "Initial research on heat, moisture and CO2 energy flows in the South Cat Tien monsoon tropical forest ecosystem”.

FORM OF COOPERATION
