Tropical Engineering Laboratory

Head of Laboratory: Dr. Dong Pham Khoi

Tropical Engineering Laboratory was established in 1988.

MAIN RESEARCH DIRECTIONS

- Researching on the influence of tropical environment and climate conditions on weapons, technical equipment and explosives. Evaluating the quality of propellants and explosives in terms of stability.

- Researching and perfecting the tropicalization technology processes for weapons and technical equipment in order to improve the durability and reliability when exploiting in the tropical climate of Vietnam. Developing preservation technology, methods and means of tropicalizing weapons and technical equipment.

- Participating in staff training, technology transfer and coordinating with other units inside and outside the Institute to perform tasks in the field of Tropical Engineering.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

- Currently, there are 02 sublaboratories at the main campus, 02 sublaboratories at the Tay Tuu campus, Bac Tu Liem, Hanoi. Equipment for assessing the quality of propellants and explosives: Devices for determining the ignition temperature; measuring the melting temperature, freezing temperature determining active metal content in rocket fuel; Lava equipment, Viay AT-2, furnace.

- Equipment for survey and evaluation of electrical and electronic parameters: BK Precision 895 desktop LCR meter, BK Precision 9206 DC power supply, Keithley 2260B-250-13 DC programming source, TTI LD400 electronics, Battery test load with SBS-8400 monitor and other electrical measuring devices.

RESULTS AND REWARDS

- Successfully transferring the technology of manometers and Lava equipment used to evaluate the quality classification of propellants; Providing maintenance and repair services for Lava equipment for the Laboratory of Armaments.
- Developing two barometer standards to evaluate the quality of propellant, applied in the whole army from 2015. Successfully developing tropicalization technology for electronic equipment, effective on the equipment of Academy of Cryptography Techniques, Government Information Security Commission, PKAir Force radar complexes, missile complexes. Successfully researching and manufacturing a storage bag for P-15 U missile ammunition.

FORM OF COOPERATION

- Research cooperation in the field of explosives and polymeric materials;

- Performing contracts for analysis of physico-chemical criteria and stability of propellants and explosives;

- Coordinating in the implementation of topics and projects in the field of assessing the impact of tropical climate factors on the weapons and technical equipment and developing preservation methods suitable for each specific type of weapons and technical equipment.
