Coordinating Committee for Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre convenes 31st meeting

In the evening of December 15th, at two bridge points in Hanoi (Vietnam) and Moscow (Russian Federation), the Intergovernmental Coordination Committee on Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center held its online 31st meeting session. Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of Defense, Chairman of the Vietnam Subcommittee and Mr. Aleksey Mikhailovich Medvedev, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Educaiton of the Russian Federation , the Chairman of the Russian Sub-Committee co-chaired the session.

At the meeting session, the two sides agreed that, in the past year, despite being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, scientific and technological activities of Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center was carried out in accordance with the 2020 Plan and the Scientific and Technological Research Program for the 2020 - 2024 period approved at the 30th Meeting Session of the Coordination Committee.

Accordingly, Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center carried out 50 projects and 1 technical task in research directions of tropical ecology, tropical materials, and tropical biomedicine. The researches focused on biodiversity, structure and function of terrestrial ecosystems, aquatic ecology, atmospheric composition...; organized and conducted 34 field trips; conducted scientific workshops on tropical materials and tropical biomedicine; and published 126 articles in prestigious international and Russian scientific journals. In particular, the mobile laboratory vehicle provided by Russia to Center, capable of biomedical monitoring and diagnosis, was certified by the Ministry of Health of Vietnam for eligibility to confirm SARS-CoV-2 by testing technique of real-time RT-PCR. During the time of the pandemic, its effectiveness was maximized in testing of nearly 20,000 soldiers and people in pandemic areas.

The delegates approved the scientific research plan of Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center in 2021 and suggested that Center should continue strengthening cooperation activities on technology transfer, promoting the application of research results into practice, and coordinating in effectively implementing the built science and technology programs. The two sides agreed on the agenda for the 32nd Meeting Session and signed the Minutes of the 31st Meeting Session of the Intergovernmental Coordination Committee on Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center.
