Scientific Conference: Practice on Tropical Durability of Weapons and Military Technical Equipment

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its founding, with the aim of promoting scientific exchanges, strengthening cooperation, and enhancing promotion of science and technology (S&T) activities towards tropical durability (TD), on October 31st, in Hanoi, Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center held a scientific conference entitled “Practice on Tropical Durability of Weapons and Military Technical Equipment (WMTE)”.

Major General, Dr. Nguyen Hong Du and Doctor of Science Kuznetsov A.N, Co-Directors General of Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center, co-chaired the conference. Participating in the conference were nearly 200 managers and scientific researchers of the Center and other units in the Army.

Opening the Conference, Major General Nguyen Hong Du emphasized that “Among the contents of technical work, assurance of the durability of WMTE under the impact of tropical climate (tropical durability) is of great significance as it is an issue directly related to the service life, reliability, and efficiency of WMTE. It is also the task posed to the Ministry of Defense’s S&T units, including the Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center.

Research and improvement of tropical durability for WMTE has been identified by the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center as one of the basic research directions in line with the Center's functions and tasks, and has been implemented since its establishment. The hot and humid tropical environment and  climate have strong impacts on materials, equipment, and machines, including WMTE and reduce their durability, reliability, tactical and technical features, and lifespan. The adverse impacts of tropical climatic factors are the direct causes affecting the tactical and technical features and combat readiness of the WMTE, especially in marine climate conditions. The research of  solutions to improve the tropical durability of materials and technical equipment is of great significance to contribute to performing technical assurance and meeting the requirements of exploitation and efficient use of WMTE in training, combat readiness, and fulfillment of the Army's tasks.

More than 10 keynotes and presentations at the Conference assessed the results of S&T activities of Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center in TD during the 30 years since its establishment and highlighted a number of key research results in the recently years. The  reports  focused on analyzing, evaluating, citing, and clarifying the role and effectiveness of TD research to the technical assurance work of the Navy, Air Defense-Air Force, and other technical units in the whole Army. At the same time, many practical scientific and technical solutions were proposed for  thew WMTE assurance before the impacts of tropical climate to contribute to  well maintaining, durably using, and ensuring safety and saving of WMTE to meet requirements of building a revolutionary, regular, elite, and gradually modern Army.

Concluding the Conference, Major General, Dr. Nguyen Hong Du directed Vietnam - Russia Tropical to closely coordinate with technical units in the whole Army in clearly defining the research contents based on the characteristics of each unit to have more research projects and tasks on TD to practically and effectively serve military and defense tasks and contribute to successfully implementing the the Central Military Party Committee’s Resolution No.382- NQ/DUQSTW issued on November 29th, 2007 on leading the technical work in the new situation./.
