Scientific workshop on research, monitoring, and diagnosis of infectious diseases

19/12/2017

Within the framework of cooperation between Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center and Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) (Rospotrebnadzor), following the Scientific workshop entitled "Some issues of monitoring and diagnosis of influenza molecules", on December 19th, 2017 Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center and "Microb"/Rospotrebnadzor” Plague Prevention and Control Institute - Russian Federation, held the scientific workshop on the methods in the monitoring and diagnosis of infectious diseases.

Participating in the workshop were the scientists from the Institute of tropical medicine, Department of Biotechnology , and Science Planing Department

With his experiences in monitoring and diagnosis of infectious diseases, Dr. А. N. Матrоsоv introduced GIS technology in the study of natural infectious disease outbreaks and achievements. Матrоsоv also shared his experiences in using GIS technology to study the structure of entities and phenomenon, study the dynamics in space and time, detect relationships (correlation analysis), analyze trends, operations of geographic systems, classification, grouping, forecasting, etc.

The highlight of the workshop was Dr. Kasiana’s presentation on the Mobile Laboratory and its important applications in monitoring the transmission of diseases from animals to humans. The mobile laboratory is designed on a large truck with all the functions of a biosafety laboratory for level 3 and 4 pathogens.

Mobile Laboratory

Currently, as natural outbreaks of disease always exist, dangerous pathogens are likely to recur, and, especially, terrorist organizations may use them as agents of biological weapons, the use of mobile laboratories is essential.

Mobile laboratories are really important in the outbreaks of dangerous infectious diseases. Due to the ease of travel to remote and hard-to-reach areas, the process of diagnosing and preventing infectious diseases will be faster and more effective. Since 2007, the mobile laboratories, Microbs", designed by Plague Prevention and Control Institute - Russian Federation, has detected and eliminated 123 outbreaks of dangerous infectious plague in different countries around the world, especially during the 2014-2016 Ebola virus outbreak in Guinea.

The workshop opened up a prospect of cooperation between the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center and Plague Prevention and Control Institute - Russian Federation on the "Microb". Hopefully in the near future, the Mobile Laboratory will be present at the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center within the framework of scientific cooperation between the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center and Rospotrebnadzor.
