The 32nd meeting of the Intergovernmental Coordinating committee on the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre

On the evening of February 21, 2022, at the two bridge points of Hanoi (Vietnam) and Moscow (Russian Federation), the 32nd meeting of the Intergovernmental Coordinating Committee for the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre was held via video conferencing.

Attending the meeting, from Vietnam Sub-committee were delegates from the Government Office, Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Standing members of the Vietnam Sub-Committee, and leaders of some agencies and units of the Ministry of National Defense.

Delegates from the Russian Sub-Committee were representatives of Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, Federal Service of Military-Technical Cooperation, Russian Academy of Sciences, and leaders of agencies and organizations of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Industry, and Trade, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Health.

Guests of the meeting were Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Dang Minh Khoi and Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Vietnam Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich.

At the working session, the Coordination Committee assessed that despite the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre achieved effective implementation of the Resolution of the 31st Session of the Coordinating Committee, made great efforts to overcome difficulties, actively and flexibly fulfilled the scientific and technological research plan of the year under the Scientific and Applied Research Program for the period from 2020 to 2024.

Accordingly, the Center carried out 50 projects and 2 technical tasks on the following areas: Tropical Materials, Tropical Ecology and Tropical Biomedicine; the research focused on biodiversity, structure and function of terrestrial ecosystems, aquatic ecosystems, research on atmospheric composition; continued the coordination with research institutes of the Russian Federation’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing to carry out research contents and epidemiological surveillance of plague and other infectious diseases which originated from nature in some areas of Vietnam; conducted natural testing programs of promising materials and ensured the durability of weapons; Organized and conducted 45 fact-finding trips, including research trips to offshore waters; published 173 articles published, of which 111 articles were published in prestigious international and Russian scientific journals, 48 articles were published in the journal "Tropical Science and Technology" of the Center.

The Center continues to perform diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2 on mobile laboratory vehicles and molecular biology laboratories. Until December 2021, the Center has tested more than 137,000 samples of 673,000 people, 23,000 samples of which were detected positive for SARS-CoV-2, making an important contribution to the Covid-19 prevention and control of Vietnam.

At the working session, the Coordinating Committee approved the plan of scientific and technological research of the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre in 2022; directed the Center to continue strengthening and expanding cooperation in scientific research, technology transfer, promoting applied research, and quickly implementing research findings into practice, etc. At the end of the meeting, the two sides signed the minutes of the 32nd meeting of the Intergovernmental Coordination Committee on the Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center and also agreed that the 33rd meeting will be held in Hanoi./.
